empower students

In celebration of Women's History Month, D127 reflects on a recent event that empowered our female student-athletes from Grayslake North High School and Grayslake Central High School. In February, over 100 athletes, coaches, and administrators from D127 attended a conference featuring ESPN's Sarah Spain, who shared her journey and insights with female athletes from Lake County.

The event, hosted by the Chicago Sky, provided a platform for Spain to discuss her experiences as a three-sport athlete at Cornell and her broadcasting career, highlighting the rise of women's sports. Her story resonated with many attendees, offering valuable perspectives on navigating challenges and seizing opportunities in sports.

D127 athletes and coaches shared that hearing from someone who's been in our shoes and succeeded is incredibly inspiring. It motivates those in attendance to push their limits and pursue personal goals.

The conference also included interactive sessions where students discussed leadership, resilience, and the importance of representation in sports. These conversations aimed to equip our athletes with the tools and confidence to excel both on and off the field.

As we honor Women's History Month, D127 remains committed to supporting and celebrating the achievements of our female athletes, coaches, and community members.
